Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from my first counselling session?

Your first session is where we really begin to untangle what's brought you to counselling. We'll spend time exploring what's been going on for you, what you're hoping to change or understand, and start building a picture of what our work together might look like. It's normal to feel a little nervous (most people do), but there's no pressure to have everything figured out before you arrive. My aim is for you to leave feeling heard and with a clearer sense of the path forward.

Is what I share in counselling kept confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of the counselling relationship. Everything you share stays between us. There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions, such as if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, but I will always discuss these limits with you before we begin working together. As a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), I work within their Code of Ethics to protect your privacy and wellbeing.

Do you offer online counselling sessions?

Yes, I offer both online and in-person counselling sessions in Wellington. Online sessions are held via a secure video platform and are a great option if you prefer the flexibility of connecting from home or have difficulty getting to an in-person appointment. Many clients find online counselling just as effective as face-to-face, and it means support is accessible no matter where you are in New Zealand.

How much does counselling cost, and how do I book?

Sessions are 50 minutes long and are $150. They can be booked by contacting me through the website or email. I recommend reaching out for a free initial phone consultation if you'd like to ask questions or get a feel for whether we're the right fit before committing to a session.
